Welcome Letter from Father Joseph

June 2nd, 2019 by Brett Gaspers

Alleluia! Christ is risen! It is my honor to have been called by the Holy Spirit and the leadership of St. Hilda-St. Patrick to be your next vicar! I look forward to joining you in proclaiming Jesus’ resurrection and living God’s love in the world.

Like you, I value inclusivity, service, learning, and sharing. I am excited about the possibilities of using the facilities for outreach and hopeful about opportunities for lifelong formation. I have experience in teaching a variety of ages, with a strong commitment to intergenerational formation. I have been heavily formed by those with more life experience — both inside and outside the church.

I have been a part of congregations of a variety of sizes in very different places: from Alabama to New York City, San Francisco to south of Tacoma. I’ve had some very different opportunities in my life, and I’m looking forward to my next one — joining you in the ongoing transformation of Edmonds through living God’s love and inviting others to live it as well, following the teachings of Jesus and being caught up in the work of the Spirit.

As home cooks, my husband Brandon and I are very much looking forward to joining you for many, many meals! At every step of this discernment it has been made clear that food is something you value — and it’s something I value too. Don’t be surprised if a (nine-layer) caramel cake or hot cross buns make their way to some gatherings. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you soon and hope to see as many of you as I can on July 7.

– The Rev. Joseph Peters-Mathews
